Background
Dr. Wai Mo Suen obtained his Ph.D. at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He is the Founder, Chairman of the Board and CEO of ClusterTech Limited, a company providing advanced computing solutions. He is also a professor of theoretical physics at the Washington University and an honorary professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).
Dr. Suen has over 30 years of experience in advanced computing technologies, and has led multi-national supercomputing projects on relativistic astrophysics starting in the 90’s.
In 1999, he brought his research projects on black holes to CUHK as a visiting professor, only to find that Hong Kong did not have high performance computing facilities for large-scale numerical research. This was in sharp contrast to that in the U.S. where high performance computing was being widely used in not only scientific research, but also real-life problems in areas ranging from finance to manufacturing and public services. This prompted Dr Suen to found ClusterTech Limited with the vision to promote applications of advanced computing technologies in Greater China and East Asia.
Dr. Suen is committed to developing cutting-edge computing technology and has received prestigious accolades. As a researcher in theoretical physics, he got the 1995 Outstanding Young Researchers Award from the International Organization of Chinese Physicists and Astronomers, recognising his contributions to the numerical study of general relativity and black holes physics. As an entrepreneur, he was awarded Asia Pacific Entrepreneur Awards 2017 Hong Kong by Enterprise Asia in 2017, the InnoStars Award 2019 by Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF) and the IFTA Fintech Achievement Award 2019 - Iconic Star by The Institute of Financial Technologists of Asia (IFTA), in recognition of his contributions technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Under his leadership, ClusterTech has served hundreds of national organisations and companies in the region with solutions on High Performance Computing, Cloud Computing, Big Data Infrastructure and Analytics, and Artificial Intelligence.(Please see our customer list)
